Summer holidays

It’s a common misconception that academics put their feet up and enjoy a glass of sherry or two as soon as students leave for the summer. To put matters right, here are some of the things I have been doing this week:

  • mentoring work experience students from schools across the region
  • designing a scoring method to rate people’s interactions with a computerised ‘counsellor’
  • peer reviewing a paper submitted for publication in a clinical psychology journal
  • revising two of our own papers
  • thinking about how to assess the impact of introducing the intervention we have developed – Functional Imagery Training – into Broadreach drug and alcohol rehabilitation services
  • trying to get some expense claims processed before the end of the university’s financial year
  • meeting with PhD students
  • discussing grant application plans
  • arranging PhD examiners
  • trying to answer old emails faster than new ones arrive

It is Tuesday.
